Oceans

Facts from the class:
There is almost 3 times as much water in the ocean as there is land on the earth.

The water gets darker as you dive deeper into the ocean.  The sun's rays cannot shine through the deeper water.

Green plants make oxygen for the fish to breathe. The fish give off carbon dioxide for the plants.

Plankton are tiny floating plants and animals in the sea. Algae is one kind of plankton.

The Octopus

Facts from the class:
Octopuses can swim by squirting out jets of water to push themselves along.

In the day time, octopuses hide along in rocky dens.  At night they come out to hunt.

To escape predators, they squirt out a cloud of ink so they can get away.

Octopuses feel and taste withe their eight tentacles.

Desert

Facts from the class:
Deserts are arid which means very dry.
Day times are very hot and nights become very cold.

All desert creatures and plants have special ways of surviving heat and drought.

The kangaroo rat never drinks, it gets water from the seeds it eats.  Jack rabbits lick dew from plants to drink.

A saguaro cactus grows only in the Sonoran Desert in North America.  It has to be 50 years old to grow an arm.
